A 60-year old commercial HVAC, plumbing and electrical company in Fort Myers, B & I Contractors professes “Quality, Integrity, Teamwork and Safety” as its core values. Proving it true, B & I jumped in to help efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 using their unique knowledge and skills. They installed air conditioning for a 500-bed field hospital in Miami and worked with Lee Health to develop a “plenum box” — a familiar to the world of HVAC — that would trap discharge from a patient’s cough. Now the company’s 24-7 Service Department has taken the lead as businesses begin to reopen, following CDC and industry guidelines for ways to keep people at work safe. The department has installed a UV-C light source for several customers, which prevents bio-growth and reduces airborne pathogens in an air conditioned space. It has also recommended replacing air filters with a minimum of MERV-13 filters, able to capture tiny virus-carrying dust particles that can flow throughout a building. Happy 60th birthday to B & I this year, and thanks for coming through when we needed it most. 239-332-4646; www.bandiflorida.com
